The Ultimate Boat Plant

The Ultimate Boat Plant

Owning a sailboat has changed my whole shopping experience. It doesn’t matter what I’m out shopping for, hunting for a particular item or merely window browsing, I now find myself constantly on the lookout for things that would be great on the sailboat. Maybe I like a challenge, but it doesn’t matter where I am, I now look at everything differently. Last year when getting ready for the annual sailing trip to Desolation Sound, I was browsing in the flower…

Market Time

Market Time

This Saturday marks the start of the 2017 season for Salt Springs Saturday market. Starting this weekend, the market will now run every Saturday, going from April 1st to the end of October. This is a great cruising destination for the weekend. Grab a Mt. Maxwell coffee and stroll the market perusing all the various stands, pick up a baked treat for yourself, a gift for someone, and then take a walk through the Ganges shops. Either anchoring in Ganges Harbour…

Must Have Bartender Tool

Must Have Bartender Tool

This tool is a must for any boat, it’s really a staple for any proper boat bar! I stumbled onto this tool when I was browsing for stocking stuffers the other year and thought it was a brilliant boat find. This tool is called Bar10der and it’s 10 tools in one! Hike to an Old Goldmine

Hike to an Old Goldmine

Shoal Bay as we know it today is the home of a rustic marina, but it once was an active gold mine town with a school and two hotels. As with most logging and mining activity, once the mine shut down some of the equipment was…

Dinner out in Desolation Sound?

Dinner out in Desolation Sound?

Anchored in Squirrel and don’t feel like cooking, get in the tender and go out for dinner! There is a great little restaurant just beside the Squirrel Cove General Store called The Cove Restaurant. If you don’t already know, the Squirrel Cove General Store has a small dock you can tie a tender up to so you don’t even need to get your feet wet on the beach. Just with any restaurant I’m sure they may have the odd bad…

Selby Cove Hike

Selby Cove Hike

Selby Cove on Prevost Island is a lovely anchorage. The anchorage is protected from most winds and is one of my favourite places in the gulf islands to watch the sunset. While I loved the view from the anchorage, I didn’t love the fact that it didn’t offer me any hiking options, ….until I realized it did! The access to the hike is in a little indent at the base of a mosey rock in deep water. I would recommend a…
