Fall weather is here, with the days a little shorter, and the temperature a little cooler. For some boaters, fall is where you tuck your boat in and transition to non boating activities, while for others, it’s that great time of year to enjoy fewer boats on the water with a fall boating trip! On the west coast, there are fantastic options for fall boating destinations to get you out on the water. A few sweaters and fleeces, your foul weather gear and staying warm at night you’re set!

Explore the San Juan Islands throughout the fall, through a number of events. Explore their schedule and find something that suits you, for an excuse to go to the San Juans, and even treat yourself with accommodations with one of their specials.
Saltspring Apple Festival September 29
Rent a car or bike on the island and partake in the 20th annual Apple Festival. Enjoy a day on Salt Spring sampling various apple delights, from cider to baked treats! The Salt Spring Island Apple Festival is growing in popularity and is a great island event.
Yacht Club Appreciation October
For the month of October, arrive in a group of 10 boats and receive 50% off your moorage. Not a bad excuse to plan a group cruise! Get some boats together and plan a fun fall cruise!
Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival October 11 – 13
Take a break from turkey and sail over to Port Angeles and enjoy a three day crab and seafood festival. The three day event is filled with events, such as the grab a crab derby, a Crabfest 5K Fun Run, to a Chowder Cook-Off. The weekend wouldn’t be complete with off course the Kitsap Bank Crab Central Tent, dining on crab and fantastic seafood and enjoying Northwest micro-brews.
Oktoberfest Celebration October 12
Why only enjoy Thanksgiving on the boat when you can couple it with Oktoberfest! Sail to Friday Harbour and spend the day at the San Juan Island Brewing Company enjoying their Oktoberfest! Spend the day sampling their various ales and lagers, while enjoying German themed food, live music and games and activities for all ages.
Sip & Savour Salt Spring October 19
Sail over to Salt Spring Island and enjoy an afternoon of good drinks and food. Enjoy a culinary adventure and spend the day taking in all that Salt Spring Island has to offer at their 8th annual Sip & Savour event with over 40 food and beverage providers! From Salt Spring Islands many breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries, to various food samplings from across the island.
Bite of the San Juans October 27
Once you’ve sampled Salt Spring Island, why not sail over to Friday Harbour and sample the San Juans! Enjoy an afternoon sampling food and beverages from the San Juan Islands at the historic Brickworks. Entry is free, with bites starting at $3, with all proceeds benefiting the San Juan County farming initiatives.
Dine and Dock November 1 to March 15
For a low key weekend on the boat, check out Port Browning new docks and take advantage of their dine and dock special. Enjoy a quiet weekend away and take a break from cooking!
