Happy hour is a boater staple. It doesn’t matter where you’re boating, what kind of boat you have, happy hour is happy hour. There are no real rules for happy hour, it merely involves the drink of your choice and something paired to snack on. It’s the relaxing part at the end of your day where you can put in as much or as little effort as you like. Crack open a beer and a bag of chips, or mix a gin and tonic and make hummus and pita’s from scratch.
When the urge strikes, boaters love to try and out do each other. Over the years I’ve seen anywhere from a fresh baked pie with apples picked in a wild orchard, to a deep fryer fish and chip party on the shoreline with from scratch potato chips and fresh caught fish. Happy hour competition is no different!
Of course always looking for new happy hour ideas to add to my repertoire, I found a perfect simple appetizer, roasted chili lime chickpeas from The Faux Martha! This recipe is great. They are super simple and pretty much involve galley staples – canned chickpeas, spices, oil, sugar and limes. Fresh limes can be a challenge depending how long you’ve been out for, but it’s nothing a little bottled lime juice can’t substitute, no excuses.
There’s never an excuse for not eating well on the boat, cheers to your happy hour!
